October 2017

Government Agreement

The Dutch government formally agrees to explore the legalization and regulation of a quality-controlled Cannabis supply chain.

July 2018

Bill Submission

The Cabinet submits the Wietexperiment bill to the House of Representatives, proposing a pilot program involving 10 municipalities.

December 2018

CanAdelaar Founded

CanAdelaar is founded, establishing itself across the entire Cannabis value chain, from cultivation to distribution, with a focus on sustainable practices at its state-of-the-art facility in Hellevoetsluis.

January 2019

Bill Approval by House of Representatives

The House of Representatives approves the Wietexperiment bill, advancing it to the Senate.

November 2019

Bill Approval by Senate

The Dutch Senate gives final approval to the Wietexperiment bill, solidifying plans for a regulated Cannabis supply chain experiment.

October 2021

Grower Designation

The government grants licenses to 10 growers, including CanAdelaar, to cultivate and supply Cannabis products as part of the experiment.

June 2022

Production Milestone

Construction begins on the largest THC production facility within the Wietexperiment, furthering CanAdelaar's capacity to meet demand.

March 2023

CanAdelaar Receives License

CanAdelaar is officially designated as one of the 10 licensed growers permitted to legally supply Cannabis to Coffeeshops participating in the Wietexperiment.

December 2023

Preliminary Phase Begins

Two licensed growers, including CanAdelaar, are authorized to supply a limited range of Cannabis products to Coffeeshops in Breda and Tilburg, marking the first legal sale of regulated Cannabis in Europe.

December 2023

CanAdelaar’s First Delivery

CanAdelaar successfully supplies 160 Cannabis products to Coffeeshop de Baron in Breda, achieving a historic milestone with the first legal sale of THC products for recreational use in Europe.

June 2024

Transition Phase Commences

Coffeeshops in all participating municipalities are allowed to stock and sell regulated Cannabis products without restrictions, expanding the scope of the Wietexperiment across the country.

Here the Dutch Health Minister Ernst Kuipers was present during the the first regulated sale of THC products for recreational use in Europe.
